A certificate of title is a proof of ownership for a used car, boat, or ATV.

To transfer the ownership to a third party you need to sign the sertificate of title for a vehicle and five it to a new owner.

A certificate of title is a state-issued document that contains essential information about the vehicle such as model, type, year, and info about the owners of the car with their names and addresses.
"Certificate of title" means a document issued by a jurisdiction to establish a record of ownership between an identified owner and the described vehicle, vessel, or outboard motor. (Title 70D, Chapter 3, Sec.102)
