\ ˈmɔː.gɪdʒ \ "Mortgage" or "Lien" includes deed of trust, vendor ’s lien, chattel mortgage, mechanic ’s, materialman ’s or laborer ’s lien, judgment, attachment or garnishment lien, pledge by hypothecation, and Federal or State tax liens. (CHAPTER I, Sec. 3.)

MORTGAGE. Any conveyance, agreement or arrangement in which property is used as security. (Sec. 43-8-1)

"Mortgage" means any conveyance, agreement or arrangement in which property is encumbered or used as security. Mortgage does not include leases or easements.(Chapter 1, A. 2, S.14-1201)

A mortgage loan is a loan secured by real property through the use of a mortgage note which evidences the existence of the loan and the encumbrance of that realty through the granting of a mortgage which secures the loan. However, the word mortgage alone, in everyday usage, is most often used to mean mortgage loan.
